Lake Cherokee
Lake Cherokee is a small historic neighborhood on the southern edge of downtown Orlando — brick streets and a deep canopy of live oaks gathered around the lake that gives the district its name. The first lakefront homes went up in the 1880s, when newlyweds built along what was then called Lake Minnie. In 1981 the City of Orlando designated the surrounding blocks a historic district.
It remains one of the city’s quieter corners: Spanish moss in the live oaks, herons and ducks on the water, and neighbors who look out for the place and for each other.
The neighborhood is represented by the Lake Cherokee Neighborhood Association — a voluntary association of residents that stewards the historic district and speaks for the neighborhood with the City of Orlando and Orange County Public Schools.
